McDonald’s is seeking a Manager for its U.S. Government Relations team based at its new global headquarters Chicago’s west loop. The position will help support key government relations’ strategies including execution of communications with key constituencies including national organizations, owner/operators and priority market cross-functional teams.
The Manager will help execute proactive engagement plans to enhance brand reputation among key constituencies and support the Government Relations team in day to day management of its priorities in as fast-paced environment. S/he will work help plan, coordinate and execute the activities in the areas of outreach, events, message development, issue management, influencer engagement, policy communications and thought leadership. The Manager will interface with key internal (ie owner-operators, Corporate Relations leadership) and external stakeholders (trade associations, legislative consultants, elected officials and other industry professionals).
The successful candidate will serve as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Brand, possess significant political acumen, and have very strong writing and project management skills. Presentation and relationship-development skills are essential as this position requires communication to a variety of audiences. This position reports to the Director of U.S. Strategic Engagement and Outreach and will be a member of the Corporate Relations team, led by Global Chief Communications Officer, Robert Gibbs.

5+ years of serving as a project manager and/or directing initiatives internally in fast-paced settings
5+ years of government and grassroots campaign work, including stakeholder and organizational engagement
5+ years of experience working closely to elected officials and the political process, understanding priorities and motivations
Detail-oriented, self-starter and good team player
Familiarity with industry preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with constant change
Experience in the private sector
Creative thinker, solid experience in concept to execution of new ideas
Solution oriented problem solver
Networking and relationship-building skills are imperative
Ability to influence others outside direct line of control, management

Excellent writing and presentation skill
Implement plans to successfully coordinate key outreach plans in key priority markets including, partnering with regional staff, public affairs and field communications teams to amplify initiatives and track results effectively.
Serve as the representative for the Government Relations team in key internal planning meetings for key company pillars, such as nutrition and sustainability.
Assist in developing and maintaining communication pathways with operator leadership, regional leadership, and senior management, on all matters relating to local legislation and public policy issues of interest.
Work closely with state and local staff and provide information, advice and perspective concerning federal government leadership, policies and activities.
Support GR team with centralized database that identifies and tracks opportunities to engage local officials, agencies, stakeholders.
