As a Manager of Brand Reputation, Strategy and Planning team, you will help create annual strategies and plans, specific to our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability efforts, that tell an in-depth story of the most recognized brands.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Brand Trust, the Manager will be responsible for developing and managing the overarching narrative, communications strategies and annual, monthly and weekly communications plans that support McDonald’s Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability story telling efforts. The Manager will be held accountable for being a subject matter expert regarding their story focus, along with their Supervisor (reporting to the Manager) and collaborating with cross-functional and agency partners.

The Manager will need strong strategic and critical thinking skills, the ability to mine data and apply learnings for data-driven stories and plans, as well as a firm understanding of digital and social media platforms, and an understanding of targeting key audiences. Leadership skills are a must, as you will be managing one direct report but influencing and guiding cross-functional partners and corporate executives.

Minimum Requirements:

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising or Marketing, Corporate Communications/Corporate Responsibility or related field

  • 8+ years of Public Relations, Journalism, Social Media, Integrated Marketing, or related McDonald’s experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in storytelling and creative content development on digital and social

  • Experience utilizing social media, digital channels to engage audiences with brand, organization content

  • Demonstrated knowledge and success with traditional print and broadcast media, as well as online media

  • Experience working with public relations agencies, account/business management, or business vendors

  • Familiarity with traditional and social media monitoring tools and related metrics reporting

  • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with constant change

  • Detail-oriented, self-starter and good team player with strong organizational and project management experience

  • Creative thinker solid experience in concept to execution of new ideas

  • Solution oriented problem solver

  • Networking and relationship-building skills are imperative

  • Ability to influence others outside direct line of control, management

  • Excellent writing, design and presentation skills






Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Communications Strategy & Planning

  • Leads brand building strategies and plans based on Corporate Responsibility / Sustainability business priorities

  • Responsible for creating integrated communications plans, while partnering with key business partners.

  • Works side by side with the Brand Engagement & Media Relations team to bring these plans to life through targeted engagement strategies.

  • Aligns communications strategy with supported Business departments.

  • Aligns communications strategy and plans with other Communication departmental areas (e.g., field activation, Marketing, Internal Communication, HR, Public Affairs, government relations, digital, Sustainability).

  • Gathers, analyzes and incorporates appropriate brand and industry research to enhance our communications strategies and storytelling approach.

  • Seeks opportunities to apply learned insights and analytical findings to strengthen McDonald’s brand positioning and deliver data-driven program recommendations and results.

  • Manages media dashboard and real time trends and insights – reporting on progress is a must.

  • Gathers, analyzes and incorporates key learnings and industry best practices into McDonald's communications and brand reputation efforts as appropriate to ensure messages and content resonates with and motivates our audiences.

  • Measures and reports on success of communications strategies and plans.

  • Ability to write, edit and facilitate review processes for new content and materials (i.e. social media assets, video scripts, media statements, internal publications).

Relationship Building

  • Responsible for maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across the U.S. Business and agency partners, executives included.

  • Influence key business plans based on brand voice, brand insights.

  • Demonstrates teamwork i.e., supporting team members, identifying ongoing opportunities to contribute to cross-functional initiatives.

  • Represents Corporate Relations both internally within the McDonald's system and externally at industry and business functions, events, etc.

Resource Management/Administration

  • Assists in managing all resources related to ownership of communications programs (e.g., budget, agency support, team support, etc.).

  • Ensures that all programs are kept within established budgets.

  • Provides Manager with regular updates on resource management (e.g., program management, agency support, etc.).

  • Complete all routine administrative functions (e.g., expense reports, budgets, etc.) in an accurate and timely fashion.

Agency & Vendor Management

  • Learn the intricacies related to national/regional PR agencies and assist in the development of communications strategy and content to support ownership areas with agencies.

  • Monitors quality of work and provides ongoing feedback and counsel in ownership areas to agency partners to help them meet objectives, deliver the best work.

  • Monitors and guides agency spend against established budgets to ensure effective resource management.
